Denis has been a keen sportsman all his life playing rugby and football competitively until he was 40 years of age from which the injuries he sustained brought about his interest in Sports Therapy. He attended Teesside University whilst working as a fire fighter for Cleveland Fire Service and graduated as a Sports Therapist with a first class honours degree in 2010. Now retired from the Fire Service he works on a part time basis for Teesside Sports Injury Centre.

As part of his study at Teesside University Denis carried out his work placement as Middlesbrough Football academy from which Denis gained valuable experience working with junior athletes. Furthermore he has worked closely with Cleveland Fire Brigade rugby and football teams supporting them and providing sports injury and treatment cover during competitive matches. During 2012/2013 season Denis attended cycling events with Velo29 to gain experience and increased knowledge of cycling associated injuries.

Since retiring from competitive sport Denis has gained coaching awards at level 1 and 2 rugby union and level 1 at football. He has recently become a keen sea kayaker.
